Need to burn outside the fire season?

Once the Statutory Bush Fire Danger Period is over (usually after 31 March and until 1 October), you may light a fire WITHOUT a permit - but there are still rules that you must abide by.

The main rule is that you MUST NOTIFY (see the points opposite)

You can notify the RFS online here: RFS Online notifications or call the Fire Control Centre in Queanbeyan on 6128 0600

Notify the RFS

You must notify the RFS not less than 24 hours in advance of lighting up.

Notify your neighbours

You must also notify your neighbours not less than 24 hours in advance of lighting up so they know what's happening.

You are responsible

If your fire escapes your property, you are liable - so take great care. You must:
*check the weather
*stay in attendance
*have sufficient fire fighting gear on hand
*abide by the conditions of your permit.
